How to unclog a Bathtub
Tools- 1. Hand snake 2. Plunger 3. Duct Tape
Unclogging a bathtub can be straightforward with the right tools and techniques. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Using a Hand Snake
1. Remove the Overflow Cap: Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the overflow cap. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the drain.
2. Insert the Snake: Pull out about 3 feet of cable from the snake’s barrel and insert it down the overflow opening until it stops.
3. Extend the Cable: Pull out more cable to have enough slack to comfortably spin the barrel and control the cable.
4. Spin and Insert: Move the hand snake towards the opening while spinning it. The cable should start to find its way into the drain.
5. Repeat: Once you’re at the mouth of the opening with the hand snake, pull out more cable and repeat the last step until the water goes down.
Using a Plunger
1. Seal the Overflow Cap: Instead of removing the overflow cap, seal it off with duct tape.
2. Plunge: Cover the drain entirely with the plunger and push it up and down to apply pressure to the clog until the water goes down.
3. Remove the Seal: Once the water starts to drop, remove the seal from the overflow cap. Allowing more air into the pipe will help the water flow faster.
Preventive Measures
• Use a Drain Strainer: Catch hair and solid debris, and remember to clean it regularly.
• Flush with Hot Water: Running hot water or pouring boiling water down the drain will help flush out soap scum.
